I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and grew up skiing, swimming and hiking in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains. I went to the University of Utah and received my BA in Communications. After that, I lived in France for eighteen months as I served a mission for the LDS church. I loved, loved, loved living in France! C’est bien! I come from a very loving and adventurous home. I have two sisters and two brothers who are really fun and crazy. Being one of the youngest, I always got suckered into doing their dirty work. The proof of their efforts happened last year when they all watched as I went bungee jumping off a 148 foot bridge in New Zealand! My parents both come from a long ancestral line of Mormon Pioneers. Many time honored traditions have been passed down from generation to generation. We have always remained close with our family and have the most creative family reunions. For example, when my Grandpa Price died, we wanted to honor his memory so we took all of the money that he left the family bought train tickets. My grandpa loved trains. We rode the train for 13 hours to Grand Junction, Colorado and back all in one day! We all had matching train whistles, hats and we laughed, told stories and sang songs the whole time. It was really a special way to honor my grandpa.
From the time I could tie my shoes my mom had a sewing needle in my hand. I won my first blue ribbon for 4-H at the Utah State Fair when I was eight years old. I was taught to be perfect in my skills, although I really hated the practice. My mom would unpick all of my mistakes if I would sew them again. “Practice Makes Perfect” she would ingrain into my brain! It worked because I ended up winning the National 4-H Fashion Revue for sewing when I turned 17.
My totally cool husband Todd and I have been married 16 years and somehow we produced five crazy children. We love to do anything creative together but especially hiking and exploring. Personally, I love reading anything by Sandra Dallas, cycling, tennis, swimming and chocolate (thus the need for all of the exercise.) We LOVE our dogs. Timber is a golden retriever (although he has NEVER retrieved anything in his life). He is eight years old. Our other dog is Sampson aka Professor Fluffy Pants. He is a Lhasa Apso. He is the cause for martial contention in our home because of his bathroom behavior...he has none… I still love him. Todd wants him to find another family. I just can’t!!!!!!!!! He is my fluffy child! I don’t just give my children away to the neighbors...on second thought...
I am just finishing a few years as PTA President and that has been a love/hate task. I try to have a loving, happy home. But, I usually end up with kids fighting, homework left to the last minute and dirty socks hidden in obscure places. Our motto is that we try to make each day better and less grumpy than the last one. Up– shut is the new favorite word in my house since my kids have been grounded from their cell phones for saying shut-up. My life is far from perfect. But the one thing I can appreciate is -that it doesn’t have to be. (Only in my sewing and if my mom inspects my work.) Remember: Happy Home, Happy Life!
